Position Summary: 

The National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA) organizes domestic workers in the United States for respect, recognition and labor protections. We work to raise standards and guarantee labor rights and protections for domestic workers by waging legislative and administrative policies at the municipal, state and federal level and elevating domestic workers as key leaders in building a powerful movement for social justice. NDWA formed in 2007 at the US Social Forum and currently represents 60+ affiliates, chapters and individual workers across the country.

The Senior Policy Director will be primarily responsible for directing a team of policy experts and attorneys to develop a cohesive and comprehensive policy agenda and strategy for the organization.

  • Direct NDWA’s federal policy agenda and provide policy guidance on overall organizational strategy. This requires close coordination and collaboration with NDWA’s leadership team, political team, communications team and field team.
  • Oversee development of new frameworks and principles for raising standards for domestic workers and immigrant women.
  • Oversee strategic growth of legal programs, policies and resources to support needs of NDWA’s individual members and affiliates.
  • Direct and supervise team of attorneys and issue experts, including the Government Relations Manager and the State Policy Director on federal labor protections, immigration, safety net and benefits, future of work and the gig economy, workforce development and human trafficking.
  • Assume strategic leadership roles in national coalitions, partnerships and other collaborative efforts.
  • Assist in organizational fundraising.
  • Serve as public spokesperson for NDWA.
Job Requirements: 
  • Juris Doctor, Master in Public Policy or comparable experience and 5-7 years of experience in policy strategy development, labor law and policy and leading coalitions.
  • Experience supervising a dynamic team.
  • Familiarity with federal policy landscape in one or more of the following areas: domestic work, labor, gender justice, racial justice and immigrant rights.
  • Deep understanding of issues facing low-wage workers, Black women, immigrants, and communities of color.
  • Excellent communications skills, public speaking ability and writing skills.
  • Experience working with impacted community members and grassroots organizations.
  • A demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong relationships and partnerships with coalitions, policy makers and community members.
  • Ability to think and plan strategically, to juggle multiple tasks and responsibilities, to both lead and work collaboratively with a team.
  • Ability to imagine creative policy solutions to long-standing problems in a rapidly changing context.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel as needed.
  • Spanish/English bilingual preferred.
